    Traceable GISAXS measurements for pitch determination of a 25 nm self-assembled polymer grating

    The feature sizes of only a few nanometers in modern nanotechnology and next-generation microelectronics continually increase the demand for suitable nanometrology tools. Grazing incidence small-angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS) is a versatile technique to measure lateral and vertical sizes in the nm-range, but the traceability of the obtained parameters, which is a prerequisite for any metrological measurement, has not been demonstrated so far. In this work, the first traceable GISAXS measurements, demonstrated with a self-assembled block copolymer grating structure with a nominal pitch of 25 nm, are reported. The different uncertainty contributions to the obtained pitch value of 24.83(9) nm are discussed individually. The main uncertainty contribution results from the sample-detector distance and the pixel size measurement, whereas the intrinsic asymmetry of the scattering features is of minor relevance for the investigated grating structure. The uncertainty analysis provides a basis for the evaluation of the uncertainty of GISAXS data in a more general context, for example in numerical data modeling.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures; submitted to Journal of Applied Crystallograph

    Confinement and Processing Can Alter the Morphology and Periodicity of Bottlebrush Block Copolymers in Thin Films

    Bottlebrush block copolymers (BBCPs) are intriguing architectural variations on linear BCPs with highly tunable structure. Confinement can have a significant impact on polymer assembly, giving rise to changes in morphology, assembly kinetics, and properties like the glass transition. Given that confinement leads to significant changes in the persistence length of bottlebrush homopolymers, it is reasonable to expect that BBCPs will see significant changes in their structure and periodicity relative to the bulk morphology. Understanding how confinement influences assembly will be important for designing BBCPs for thin film applications including membranes, integrated photonic structures, and potentially BCP lithography. In order to study the effects of confinement on BBCP conformation and morphology, a blade coating was used to prepare films with continuous variation in film thickness. Unlike thin films of linear BCPs, islands/holes were not observed, and instead mixtures of parallel and perpendicular morphologies emerge after annealing. The lamellar periodicity (Lâ‚€) of the morphologies is found to be thickness dependent, increasing Lâ‚€ with decreasing film thickness for blade coated films. Films coated out of tetrahydrofuran (THF) resulted in a single well-defined lamellar periodicity, verified through atomic force microscopy (AFM) and grazing incidence small-angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS), which increases dramatically from the bulk value (30.6 nm) and continues to increase as the film thickness decreases. The largest observed Lâ‚€ was 65.5 nm, and this closely approaches the estimated upper limit of 67 nm corresponding to a fully extended backbone in a bilayer arrangement. Films coated out of propylene glycol methyl ether acetate (PGMEA) resulted in a mixture of perpendicular lamellae and a smaller, likely cylindrical morphology. The lamellar portion of the film shows the same thickness dependence as the lamellae observed in the THF coated films. The scaling of the lamellar Lâ‚€ with respect to film thickness follows predictions for confined semiflexible polymers with weak excluded volume interactions and can be related to models for confinement of DNA. Spin coated films shows the same reduction in periodicity, although at very different film thicknesses. This result suggests that the material has shallow free-energy barriers to transitioning between different Lâ‚€ and morphologies, a property that could be taken advantage of for patterning diverse structures with a single material

    Structural origin of gap states in semicrystalline polymers and the implications for charge transport

    We quantify the degree of disorder in the {\pi}-{\pi} stacking direction of crystallites of a high performing semicrystalline semiconducting polymer with advanced X-ray lineshape analysis. Using first principles calculations, we obtain the density of states of a system of {\pi}-{\pi} stacked polymer chains with increasing amounts of paracrystalline disorder. We find that for an aligned film of PBTTT the paracrystalline disorder is 7.3%. This type of disorder induces a tail of trap states with a breadth of ~100 meV as determined through calculation. This finding agrees with previous device modeling and provides physical justification for the mobility edge model.Comment: Text and figures are unchanged in the new version of the file.     Enhancing firm performance through internal market orientation and employee organizational commitment

    Considering the importance of retaining key staff and managing the negative impact of high labor turnover on firm performance, this study investigates the notion of internal market orientation (IMO) as an employee management tool for helping companies retain employees and leverage performance via their organizational commitment. Drawing on data from three different managerial respondents in 275 companies based in China, the findings demonstrate the precedential effect of IMO on corporate performance through employees’ organizational commitment and retention. Inter-departmental relationship and interdepartmental communication, together with ownership types are identified as potential moderating variables, which may vary IMO’s effectiveness in the framework. This study provides scholars and practitioners with empirical evidence of IMO’s contribution to different industries and markets. Building on a western perspective, this study extends the literature in an emerging market context and specifically has implications for managing Chinese employees

    Mate Value and Self-Esteem: Evidence from Eight Cultural Groups

    This paper explores self-perceived mate value (SPMV), and its association with self-esteem, in eight cultures. 1066 participants, from 8 cultural groups in 7 countries, rated themselves on 24 SPMVs and completed a measure of self-esteem. Consistent with evolutionary theory, women were more likely to emphasise their caring and passionate romantic nature. In line with previous cross-cultural research, characteristics indicating passion and romance and social attractiveness were stressed more by respondents from individualistic cultures, and those higher on self-expression (rather than survival) values; characteristics indicative of maturity and confidence were more likely to be mentioned by those from Traditional, rather than Secular, cultures. Contrary to gender role theory, societal equality had only limited interactions with sex and SPMV, with honesty of greater significance for male self-esteem in societies with unequal gender roles. These results point to the importance of cultural and environmental factors in influencing self-perceived mate qualities, and are discussed in relation to broader debates about the impact of gender role equality on sex differences in personality and mating strategies

    Early reperfusion therapy improves left ventricular function after acute inferior myocardial infarction associated with right coronary artery disease

    Quantitative global and regional ventriculographic analysis was performed acutely and 1 week later in 46 patients undergoing reperfusion procedures within 6 hours of acute inferior myocardial infarction due to right coronary artery disease. While serial improvement in global left ventricular ejection fraction was not demonstrated for the group, infarct zone regional wall motion did improve (-2.7 +/- 0.9 vs -2.3 +/- 1.4 SD/chord, p p p p p < 0.0001). We conclude that significant improvement in global and reglonal left ventricular function in patients with inferior myocardial infarction is possible when reperfusion therapy is begun early or when arterial patency is achieved.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/26625/1/0000166.pd
